You get the price in writing before you book, with packing, crating, storage and any access charges listed line by line.
Pack and load
Our own crew wraps furniture, packs what you’ve asked us to, and checks off every item on the inventory as it goes on the truck.
Deliver and check
Your goods arrive in the delivery window on your paperwork. We unload, set up furniture, and you check items off the same inventory.
Know your estimate type
- Binding estimate
- The price is locked in writing before the move. You pay that amount unless you add items or services.
- Non-binding estimate
- The final price is based on the actual weight of your shipment. Federal rules cap what you pay at delivery at 110% of the estimate; any balance above that is billed later.
- Binding not-to-exceed
- You pay the lower of the estimate or the actual weight-based price, so the estimate is your ceiling.
Know your protection level
- Released value (no extra charge)
- Covers 60 cents per pound per item. A 25-pound TV that’s damaged would be worth $15. You must sign to choose it.
- Full value protection
- We repair the item, replace it, or pay its current market value. It costs extra, and it’s what you get by default if you don’t sign for released value.

Kentucky has an income tax, but it’s flat. The state rate is a flat 3.5% for 2026, down from 4% in 2025 and 5% a few years earlier. California’s rates climb to 13.3% at the top. Kentucky’s corporate income tax is a flat 5%.
Watch for local occupational taxes. Many Kentucky cities and counties also tax wages earned there. Lexington’s occupational license fee is 2.25%, and Louisville Metro residents pay about 2.2%. Factor that into any job offer.
Sales tax is a flat 6%. Kentucky has no local sales taxes, so you pay 6% everywhere in the state. Homeowners pay about 0.74% of their home’s value a year in property tax on average, and cars carry a yearly property tax paid when you renew your registration.

After You Arrive
Your First 30 Days in Kentucky: License and Car
Kentucky’s vehicle deadline is short. The state’s DRIVE site asks new residents to title and register their vehicles within 10 days of establishing residency, and to get a Kentucky driver’s license within 30 days. Titles and plates go through your County Clerk; licenses go through a Driver Licensing Regional Office.
Get Kentucky car insurance first
Your policy must come from a company authorized in Kentucky, and you can’t drive the car in Kentucky until it’s in place. The clerk will ask for original proof of Kentucky insurance.
Get a sheriff’s inspection
Every vehicle brought in from another state needs a sheriff’s inspection before it can be titled. Kentucky has no smog or emissions test, so this is the only inspection.
Title and register at the County Clerk
Bring your California title, the passed inspection, proof of insurance and a photo ID to the clerk in your county. Ask about the 6% motor vehicle usage tax, since credit for tax paid in another state depends on your paperwork.
Transfer your license within 30 days
